“But Alyssa, I don’t know what to write about it,” a client groans to me. I have heard it all before. The business is too niche. They don’t want to be too personal. They literally have NO IDEA what they could write about. I get it, if you’re not living in this writing world, it could be hard to figure out where to start. I have you covered with easy topics for your business blog.
Look Around, Write What You See
How do I find a topic for my blog? Just look around! I work with a clothing company and the owner told me that she had no idea what to blog about. I told her to look around. Something very obvious to her as the business owner, was not at all obvious to me as the consumer.
I asked her questions about her product line – what was the inspiration for the patterns? What is the process from designing to ordering samples to delivery experience? This may seem backend and mundane to the owner, but as a consumer, I was delighted to learn that she personally designed each article of clothing! She shared the challenges behind sizing and making sure each order fit just right.
We were able to work through personal anecdotes about her business that make for a really fun read! When in doubt, write around and start describing what you see. You can go through it after and make it more informative, more entertaining, whatever else you think is missing.
Deep Dive on One Topic
A good rule of thumb is to write a blog every 1-2 weeks. This can be super intimidating to business who feel like they just don’t have that much to say. A good way to combat needing endless topics is to write one that you know really well, and look at it from a new perspective. For a fitness coach I work with, she is equally as into promoting health as well as fitness. She often shows her followers on Instagram easy meal hacks. We discussed her obsession with smoothies and she wanted to write a blog on how to make her favorite smoothie for protein, great! Then I challenged her. Write five blogs about smoothies. Her eyes went wide, how could she make them each different and provide value? Who wants five different blogs about smoothies? Her clients did, that’s who.
So, we worked together on easy topics for her business blog. She created a blog about each of her unique clients.

What is the best topic for a blog? Anything that is relevant to YOUR business. You can find dozens of generic lists online to get you started such as 100 Business Blog Post Topic Ideas. BUT, it truly is better to follow the outline and come up with your own ideas. No one knows your business like you do!
Easy Topics for your Business Blog- Write What You Know
You know more about your business more than anyone else. Don’t be afraid to share your knowledge and don’t be afraid to get technical. I have a wedding photography client who went off the deep end talking about what camera lens she uses and the different strategies to compress the background to make it look closer to her couples.
Now, this served two purposes. One, it was very helpful to other photographers. She was providing them with useful tips, and she had other photographer’s following her after to learn from her.
It also proved her qualifications in her field. Your clients want to work with the best of the best. EVEN if they aren’t sure what you are even talking about. I had no idea what her lens compressing technique meant, but this told me that she was a wizard behind the lens.
